Every February, hundreds of super athletes from around the world come to Black Mountain to challenge their minds and bodies to the max. The Black Mountain Marathon and Mount Mitchell Challenge is a yearly event that sends athletes up to the highest point East of the Mississippi. Mt. Mitchell stands at 6,684 ft in elevation! The elevation gain for this 40-mile run will be 4,324' - in the first 20 miles!


The race was founded by Black Mountain local David Begley from Black Mountain Savings Bank and Trent Thomas from Black Dome Mountain Sports.
